The user’s dog, Cooper, experienced symptoms of vestibular disease which caused him to lose balance and appear disoriented. The disease, also known as canine idiopathic vestibular syndrome, can be triggered by severe ear infections.
Symptoms include loss of balance, rapid eye movements, head tilt, and nausea. While the symptoms can be severe and sudden, the good news is that old dogs can recover from the disease within a few days to a few weeks. Cooper recovered within a week with the help of medication and small, frequent feedings.
